I am looking to purchase Solar to handle the accounts of a small shop and guest house, where sales are split as std and zero rated.
Currently using sage instant with the sales on a cash book, is this something i can do with solar - is it suitable as it is all cash business

Yes, you can record sales in Solar Accounts without creating an invoice. To do this, create a Money Paid Out transaction with the Type set to 'General Payment. The 'From Account' should be Sales Income and the 'Deposit Into Account' should be 'Money To Be Banked' (or 'Cheque Account' if the customer pays directly into your bank account).
Also, the From Account table can have two lines: one for standard VAT and the other for zero-rated sales.
