Hi, I'm trying to reconcile my checking account but can't seem to get the opening balance in order.

The very first transaction is £9.95 on April 1st 2009, but the Account balance shows as negative £19,645.00

I've tried changing the opening balance but this doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Hi Hanna,

The 'Opening Balance' figure is the balance of the account at the start of your financial year, not necessarily before the first transaction.

In your case edit the Cheque Account and increase the opening balance by £19,654.95

Thanks for the response. Sorry, still confused.

Using bank statement, I'm entering transactions from the start of financial year April 1st 2009.

Having entered opening balance into the account settings, I'd then like to be able to reconcile each month as I go. But a negative 19,000 is preventing me from doing so.

btw - I've tried changing the financial year to 2009 but still shows negative 19,000

ok - I think I've finally got it. The financial year has to be changed from pull down menu.
