Pro-forma invoices in Solar Accounts

Vic: Can Solar accounts issue proforma invoices?

Posted by Vic on Apr 19, 2009 7:53 PM BST

Hi Vic,

I believe that legally proforma invoices don't result in an obligation on the part of the (potential) customer, and so shouldn't be recorded as an accounting transaction. In this way they are more like a quote than an invoice.

The best way to produce a pro-forma invoice in Solar Accounts is to create a separate data file and record an invoice there. You will need to re-type the invoice into your 'main' data file to record the sale.

What do you mean by set up a separate data file?
If I create a proforma invoice by changing the invoice template title as you suggested it will still create an actual sale that will be logged as income.
Thank you.

Hi Jo,

You can create a separate data file by clicking menu File > New > Business File. However, my original response from 2009 is a bit out of date. I think the simplest approach now is to change the quote template (not the invoice template) as described here:
