Moving Accounts to Assets

I need to put secondhand Machinery/New Equipment and New building under Assets but cannot seem to be able to move them to there . They are at the the moment under finance costs which comes under expenses. The accountant wants them moved but I have tried and cannot seem to be able to do it. Could you please advice how I do this

Hi Gwen,

It sounds like you have created a new account called 'Machinery/New
Equipment' and incorrectly grouped it under Expenses. In that case here is
how to change to assets:

  1. Go to the Accounts list and double-click on 'Machinery/New Equipment'
and change the name to 'Machinery/New Equipment Expense'

  2. Click menu File > New > Account and create a new account called
'Machinery/ New Equipment Asset' which is grouped under Assets

  3. Right-click on the 'Machinery/New Equipment Expense' account and select
    'Show Transactions'

  4. For each transaction listed, edit it and change the account
from 'Machinery/New Equipment Expense' to 'Machinery/New Equipment Asset'

  5. Go back to the Accounts list and delete the 'Machinery/New Equipment
    Expense' account
