Following liquidation of one of my customers, I have received a small dividend to unsecured creditors. The debt was written off a number of years ago. What is the best way to record this dividend in Solar, is it a simple money received transaction or does it need to be related to the original debt in some way?

You should simply record the dividend as 'Uncategorised Income'
Ideally you should have already recorded a transaction to write off at the
time it was written off years ago. If not, you can write off an unpaid
invoice as described here:
