I have recently upgraded to Solar Accounts online from the offline version. I'm trying to submit my first MTD VAT return and can't find how to get an authorisation code to verify the software.

HMRC don't seem to have anything on it and the links that Solar accounts open when I try to connect just open MS word documents.

Could you advise how to proceed please

Hi Peter,

Sorry for the problems you are having generating an HMRC authorisation
code. It is odd that the link in Solar Accounts opens an MS Word document
- that sounds like a glitch.

As an alternative, just follow this link in your browser:
https://api.service.hmrc.gov.uk/oauth/authorize?scope=read%3Avat+write%3Avat&response_type=code&redirect_uri=urn%3Aietf%3Awg%3Aoauth%3A2.0%3Aoob&client_id=oxYYNfjnez_fSMKJh4Ib4elrIvga

If you follow the steps in that link HMRC will issue an authentication code
which you can copy and paste into Solar Accounts.
