Excellent software by the way
I wish to input a directors loan into my business, would the correct way be to open a new general transaction then use the cheque account or create a new asset account then move the money to the directors loan account.

Glad you like the software! Yes, to record the loan record a General Transaction between the Cheque Account and Directors Loan account. When you set up a company Solar Accounts automatically creates a Directors Loan account as a liability - you can use this account or delete it and create an asset instead.
