I bought a personal item using the companies bank account by mistake
Whats the best way of correcting this in solar as of course I want to pay the money back? If possible from my loan account which I use for expenses.
Would one be to option be to sell the item to me via a invoice?

There's no need to create an invoice. Just create a General Transaction from the Cheque Account to the Directors Loan Account. When you pay back the company create another General Transaction in the opposite direction (ie. from the Directors Loan Account to the Cheque Accounts).
