As previously advised I operate under flat rate VAT just started to get vat return ready as previous I have made a purchase in this quarter of £14500 ex vat which it totally ignores also it ignores my EC vat sales what is the point of expecting me to pay for the online version is supposed to do all these things when it clearly doesn`t
Hi Martin,
The online version of Solar Accounts calculates VAT in the same way as the
offline version.
Regarding the purchase of £14500, did your supplier charge you VAT? If
not, why?
Regarding the sale to an EU customer, did you charge the customer VAT?
Also were you selling goods or services?
Mark
Yes seller charged me VAT it was £14500 ex vat purchase has been
recorded on Solar accounts but it does not show it when preparing the
VAT return
Also no i do not currently charge VAT to Eire but still have to account
for it in box 8 when Brexit eventually happens i will then be charging
VAT to Eire as per HMRC letter. Selling services
Martin
Hi Martin,
Regarding the £14500 make sure you have entered a VAT Rate of 20%. Also in
the transaction window click More Options > VAT Treatment > Purchase of
Goods or Services from UK Supplier, then refresh the VAT return.
Regarding the Eire sale Box 8 on the VAT return is only for the supply of
goods, not services. Our understanding is that the sale should not affect
your flat rate turnover and therefore should not appear on your VAT
return. See section 6.4 in VAT Notice 733
<https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-733-flat-rate-scheme-for-small-businesses/vat-notice-733-flat-rate-scheme-for-small-businesses>

specifically, "If your business... sells services to other member states of
the EU...then...if your supplies are outside the scope of VAT, leave them
out of your flat rate turnover."
Mark
I understand what your saying but I do have to put the Eire services sales in box 8 ( as confirmed by HMRC) and also have to do a separate return at the moment , hopefully when Brexit is sorted the return will be changed so all figures will then go on the flat rate turnover as they will be paying Vat as well then
Kind regards
Hi Martin,
With regard to the Eire sale, do you also want the transaction to affect
Box 1 and Box 6? That is, do you include it in your flat rate turnover?
Mark
No it does not affect box 1 or 6 just has to show in box 8 and match the EU vat return
Kind regards
Hi Martin,
OK in that case we recommend you click the "New Adjustment" link before
submitting your VAT return in Solar Accounts Online. Then you can directly
enter your Box 8 figure.
Mark
Twigged that the other day already done it
Kind regards
