Hi Mark - if I understand it correctly I can reord a purchase as an asset and then include the depreciation of it as an expense - presumably as a recurring transaction. If that is so, is there any way to create a recurring transaction with a defined end date - it would be a bit of a nightmare trying to track end dates on lots of items with different depreciation schedules without this.

Sorry no, you cannot create recurring transactions with a defined end period. The simplest solution is to create a General Transaction once a year to record depreciation as described here:
